Love 146 is getting some sweet lotto winnings!

True North Church of Port Jefferson, NY  had a member donate a lotto ticket worth $3million dollars.  True North is getting the full amount of ticket from the donor (who is remaining anonymous), and has opted to take the yearly amount.  True North is already a strong supporter of us and has pledged to donate some of their yearly winnings to us.  What is sweeter than lotto money you ask... nothing I say.  Who knew a game called  "Ba Da Bling" could do so much good?  So... thank you to True North... we love you guys,  and thank you to ANONYMOUS DONOR... we love you too.

Here are some news links to the story...

Unicef Article on Trafficking

Really good article from Unicef on child trafficking.

This quote from the article was especially affirming to how we often feel.

"Child trafficking is a neglected form of human trafficking..."

A suggestion just came in...

Emily heard about Love146 through a Paramore concert. She not only checked out our website, she looked through our "146 ways to start getting involved" and she just emailed this suggestion to us; I thought it was a good one.

"And as a suggestion for '146 Ways', people can make signs in the shape
of red dresses that say 'Love146.org' on them and tape them to people's
lockers, office/dorm doors, and anywhere else possible."

Keep the ideas coming.
Ideas + Action = Abolition.

Abolitionists in action in PA

Kelly, who heads up a Love146 taskforce in PA, is at it again with organizing a fun and creative awareness opportunity for her community. Her continued tenacity and refusal to allow the story of #146 to fade into the busyness and obligations of everyday life is an inspiration to me and our staff.

Check out this press release on her event:
Local Church Promotes Family “Movie on the Lawn” Because These Three Words Should Never Be a Reality

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Local physician assistant, Kelly Towers of Lancaster General Hospital hosts community gathering after returning last year from a tour of safe homes for liberated child sex slaves in South East Asia. “After meeting a five year old little girl who was able to smile again after she was set free from a brothel, I knew when I returned to Lancaster I had to help give these girls a voice. There are more children we can save.”

Mrs. Towers traveled to Thailand and Cambodian with the non-profit organization Love146 to witness first hand the detrimental effects child sex trafficking is having in South East Asia. Love146 works towards the abolition of child sex trafficking through prevention and aftercare. “There are millions of predators, millions of victims, and billions of dollars in this story,” says Rob Morris, president and co-founder of Love146 “but the problems should never be viewed through millions of people, but only through one child and once we see the eyes of one child instead of faceless millions, there is a call to action that demands a response.”

How can those in Lancaster County join the abolition movement? Mrs. Towers and other local Love146 task members have joined with Community Fellowship Church to host “Movie on the Lawn” on Saturday, September 6th at 7:30 p.m. The free community gathering will educate the public regarding efforts to combat child sex trafficking. A free outdoor showing of “Nim’s Island”(PG), hotdogs and popcorn will be provided. Just bring a blanket/lawn chair and your family. The gathering will take place at the church’s lawn located at 200 Bethel Drive in Lancaster. An indoor viewing of the movie will be held in the event of rain. To learn more about how you can help in the efforts to save the more than 27 million people currently enslaved around the world then contact Kelly Towers at 717-271-9112 today.

Video Ad.

Since Ben posted a few great ads, I thought I would post a video ad. from Austrian Airlines. This video is shown in flight before landing in the destination country. Warning; it is disturbing.

Ads

Here are some very potent ads from one of my favorite websites... http://adsoftheworld.com/
It is a site that posts creative marketing ads from all over the world. These ads are really interesting to me because of their "second look" factor. The "second look" factor is when the ad causes you to take a "second look" or closer look (similar to the "double take" that happens with good looking people... or so I've heard). I feel this is an important feature to the non-profit world when trying to shout to an image/media saturated world. Some of these give you a sick feeling in you stomach and are a little disturbing... but I'm not so sure that is a bad thing... but I'm curious as to what others think...

New B.L.O.G.

Hello all...

Welcome to the new and much improved 146Blog.  We have changed locations due to the fact that our last blog was as visually exciting as wheat bread, and honestly, we just had a difficult time getting excited over it.  So, here we are now... a new "digitized" chapter in the thoughts  of the Love146 staff.  We promise to never say anything like "Honest to Blog"  or "I swear to Blog" or "What the Blog did you just say"... or anything of the sorts.

As you are reading this Blog... please keep in mind that we are a group of individuals...   the individuals' thoughts are not necessarily those of the entire group/organization. Please read, enjoy, comment, help us brainstorm, and most importantly help us change the world.

I also just had a baby a month ago... I thought that this picture would be a great way to start out a new blog....

Tell your friends about this blog... we are very excited about it.... honest to blog.

Ben
